Open PDF files faster with Adobe Reader Lite

When it comes to bloatware, one of the strongest contender is the Adobe Reader. I never recommend anybody to use Adobe Reader to read PDF files. It is slow, occupies more hard disk space and consumes more memory. Though Foxit Reader is my preferred PDF reader, one software that grabbed my attention is the Adobe Reader Lite.

Adobe Reader Lite is based on Adobe Reader 8 minus several plugins and unnecessary features that bogs down Adobe Reader. The result is a much lighter and faster Adobe Reader. The Lite version still has several features and is definitely more powerful and resourceful than Foxit Reader. In my test Adobe Reader Lite was still a fraction of a second slower in opening files than Foxit and consumed about 4 to 5 times more memory. But even then, in my opinion, Adobe Reader Lite is still a very handy PDF reader.

Adobe Reader Lite has a much better looking interface compared to Foxit. And it doesn't have that strip of advertisement you see on Foxit. You might also come to love some of it's features like the Reading Mode where the toolbars are removed to get maximum screen space, automatic scroll etc. If nothing else, you get to reclaim the familiar PDF icon on all your PDF files which was so arrogantly replaced by Foxit's icon!

Tip: You can speed up the original Adobe Reader application by moving all the items in the /Plugins folder to the /Optional folder. Once the Plugin directory is empty, your PDF files will open in a jiffy.
