Do you know how to pronounce that word?

Have you at any time been unsure how a certain word is pronounced, whether be it your native language or any other? If you are visiting a foreign country, it’s always good to know the correct pronunciation of the important words in their local language. But whom do you ask? Here is Forvo to help you.

Forvo is an online pronouncing dictionary that allows you to listen to words. It currently has over 114,000 words and over 55,000 pronunciations in 196 languages. Search for a word or a person’s name or a place name in any language, and if the pronunciation for that word exist in their index, you will be presented with a play button to listen to the word. The audio recordings are often done by people who are native speakers of the language and their place of residence is shown in an embedded Google Map. Sometimes, there are multiple recordings of the same word done by multiple persons and you can listen to each one of them. You can even record your own pronunciations if you feel you can do better, or if that word is pronounced differently in your country. Forvo allows that.

So the next time you stumble across a word that you don’t know how to say it, head straight to Forvo. Alternatively, you can use the Forvo browser plugin for Firefox and IE and listen to words right from the browser.

P.S: Forvo crashes Opera (what the heck!). So use another browser.
