Create your own micro-blogging network with Yonkly
Do you want to create your own micro-blogging network? Then here is Yonkly, a new startup that allows users to create a full fledged micro blog with customized appearance, advertisement, custom domain and so on. Think of it as a stripped down web hosting service built specially for micro blogging.
Yonkly allows you to integrate your Twitter, Flickr and Picasa account into the network, which enables visitors to view content from these services right inside your Yonkly network. Typical micro-blogging features such as private messages, replies and following are available on Yonkly. Additionally, users can post photos and even videos with their messages. And the 140 characters limit can be increased to your liking.
From the admin control panel you can control every aspect of your network – your members, subscriptions, site usage statistics, appearance of the site and custom domain . You can even add advertisement banners to monetize your site.
The free plan of Yonkly can be tried by anybody, but is limited. You get only 100 MB of space (but that’s sufficient), you can have only 10 users, you cannot have a custom domain, you cannot use your own logo, have limited choice of themes and some other restrictions. However, you can still add advertisements. Paid subscription starts at $4.95/month. But for total control on your site and unlimited users you have to shell out $24.95/month, which is rather high in my opinion.
Despite the limitations, the free plan has enough juice for you to start your own Twitter clone. If you are big fan of micro-blogging, you should probably give this one a go. Checkout some of the networks created on Yonkly.
