Firefox closing in on 1 billion downloads
Big number - 1 billion, isn’t it? Mozilla Firefox is expecting to hit that magical number of downloads later today, TechCrunch reports. A Twitter account was set up to monitor the numbers and currently it stands at 999,423,113 downloads. The download rate is hovering around 11-12 downloads per second, which means that the milestone will be reached in another 13 hours or so.
Mozilla is also preparing a new site http://www.onebillionplusyou.com/ which isn’t yet live, to celebrate the big moment. You will find more information and banners like the one below at http://www.spreadfirefox.com/fxbillion.
This one billion number is obviously for all the versions of Firefox, since it was launched in 2002, although the Firefox name officially took hold in 2004. It’s still impressive.
