114 fake antivirus software to avoid at all cost

Rogue antivirus software has become a growing problem in recent years. These malware infect a machine by deceiving the user into installing and paying for fake antivirus software that neither cleans the computer nor defends it against virus infection. On the contrary, these fake antivirus software are malware themselves and disable the machine of essential services like auto update and access to legitimate antivirus software, thereby making the computer vulnerable to further infection.

For example, a person surfing the Internet receives an authentic looking pop-up such as this:

fake-virus-alert

This scares the user into downloading the fake antivirus software. After installing it, the “antivirus” will initiate a fake virus scan and “detect” several virus and Trojans in the system.

The user will be then advised to remove the detected infections but in order to do so they will have to purchase the fake product. An unsuspecting user ends up buying and in the process gets scammed into paying for protection against a threat that doesn’t exist. According to an estimate, rogue antivirus infected 25 million computers worldwide during last year.

Microsoft’s Malware Protection Center has prepared an extensive database of 114 rogue antivirus software that you need to avoid at all costs.

How to Record CPU and Memory Usage Over Time in Windows?

Whenever the computer is lagging or some application is taking too long to respond, we usually fire up task manager and look under the Performance tab or under Processes to check on processor utilization or the amount of free memory available. The task manager is ideal for real-time analysis of CPU and memory utilization. It even displays a short history of CPU utilization in the form of a graph. You get a small time-window, about 30 seconds or so, depending on how large the viewing area is.
