YouTube removes original "Rickroll" video

YouTube today killed one of the most popular Internet pranks of “Rickrolling” by taking down the original Rickroll video without notice leaving the Interwebs in a state of shock. The video which served more than 30 million views can no longer be found on YouTube. The message stated is: "This video has been removed due to terms of use violation."

For those who are not familiar with the term Rickroll, it’s a famous Internet meme involving the music video for the 1987 Rick Astley song "Never Gonna Give You Up". The meme is a bait and switch: a person is provided a web link that is claimed to be relevant to the topic at hand, but the link actually takes the user to the Astley video. The person is then said to have been “Rickrolled”, a phenomenon that started on the image board 4chan and soon spread widely all over the Net.
