The Internets let out a collective sigh of relief when they found the Rickroll video, which was removed from YouTube yesterday, was back where it should be. A YouTube spokesperson wrote in an email to Neowin that the “Rickroll” video removal was a mistake, and that the video is now back on YouTube.

YouTube today killed one of the most popular Internet pranks of “Rickrolling” by taking down the original Rickroll video without notice leaving the Interwebs in a state of shock. The video which served more than 30 million views can no longer be found on YouTube. The message stated is: "This video has been removed due to terms of use violation."

The Windows host file is a plain text that Windows uses to map hostnames to IP addresses, like a DNS resolver. The contents of the host file are always at a priority level higher than other domain resolving methods. Because of that the host file is often used by network administrators to define domains on a LAN or rerouting traffic. It is also the easiest method to block websites, Internet ads and other contents across all browsers.

Microsoft recently announced through a blog post on TechNet that they will be offering developers a free entrance to beta exams. Beta exams, the post explains, are actual exams that are made available at a Prometric testing center, for no charge, as a part of the exam development process. This helps them increase exam quality by having industry experts evaluate each question, by taking the exam, and providing feedback to Microsoft. The feedback is used to fix, replace, or scrap questions from the exams.

I never really understood the attraction for huge UI on music players. Hello? it’s music, it’s for listening. Why do I need to have an interface that stretches from one edge of my monitor to the other? I don’t know who started the trend but now every media player comes with the same horrendous, logic-defying big skins… even Winamp. But at least Winamp has the ability to collapse unused sections and shrink the player to the bare minimum. But not iTunes.

VMMap is the latest addition to the pool of extremely useful utilities from Windows Sysinternals.

VMMap is a process virtual and physical memory analysis utility that shows a breakdown of a process's committed virtual memory types as well as the amount of physical memory (working set) assigned by the operating system to those types. The utility displays a graphical representations of memory usage, and a summary of information and a detailed process memory map. It also shows the content of the memory broken down into individual addresses.

Now with the launch of Ocean Showcase, users can tour the ocean from the comfort of their browser using the Google Earth browser plug-in.

Google Earth 5 introduced a great feature called historical imagery which enables you to turn back the clock and see imagery of a location from a previous timeline, if available. Historical images are available on select cities up to several decades back. Google has now added another set of images - historical images going back to the World War 2 era.

Whenever a new Firefox version is released, almost always a handful of extension goes down because most extension developers aren’t able to keep up with Firefox’s update schedule. An old, tried and tested workaround to this problem is to force Firefox to accept all extensions by disabling the compatibly check it performs before each install. However, by doing so you will be letting all extensions pass through unhindered and this can cause stability issues when some extensions are really incompatible.

Ever since I switched to Windows 7 some of my favorite programs stopped working, among which was Absolute Color Picker – a screen color picking application. I started looking for other color pickers that ran on Windows 7 without issues. For a while I used the color picker in PicPick tools. But I use Snagit for capturing screenshots and PicPick tools screen capture program clashed with Snagit. So I started looking again.
