Amazon Offers Free Shipping to India, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand

Until March 15, 2011 extended to May 15, 2011, Amazon UK is offering free shipping to Australia, India, New Zealand and South Africa. If you are from any of the four mentioned countries this is exciting news. Before you order away, there are some conditions that you should be aware of.

First, free shipping is offered only on those products that are eligible for Super Saver Shipping. Eligible items will say "eligible for FREE Super Saver Shipping ..." next to their price.

Second, free shipping is possibly applicable only on books, music and video. This is not very clear on Amazon’s website. Consider this ambiguous statement on Amazon.

One way of interpretation is: “all eligible items” qualify for free shipping. Books, Music, DVD and Video “also qualify”. The other way of interpreting it is only Books, Music, DVD and Video qualify as eligible items.

The only way to find out which is right is add items to your cart and proceed to checkout. Enter your address and see whether shipping charges are waived off. If not, you can simply cancel the order.

Update: I got in touch with Amazon. Their customer service sent a very generic reply explaining how Super Saver Shipping is applicable only for products that show the Super Saver Shipping message. Nothing about books or DVDs was mentioned. Draw your own conclusion.

The third condition is that you have to place order for at least £25. This is the total value of your shopping cart for Super Saver Shipping eligible products, and not the price of a single product. That means you can place order for a £10 and a £15 product and avail free shipping, provided, both the products are eligible for the Super Saver Shipping offer.

So that’s a lot of fine print, but these conditions were always there, not specifically imposed on Indian or Australian or New Zealandian or South African customers.

If you have any questions, checkout the FAQ that Amazon put up.

Also remember, this offer is only from Amazon UK and not Amazon.com. So beware on which Amazon site you place your order.

Amazon free shipping is already available in US, UK and a host of European countries - Belgium, Denmark, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Andorra, Finland, Gibraltar, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Spain, Sweden, Vatican city and Poland. But this is the first time the service was extended to the far east countries.

  2. I had placed an order for a boxed DVD set from Amazon.co.UK on 10/08/11. The price indicated was £27.99 and I was entitled to the Super Saver Delivery offer wherein India qualified for free delivery if the order was worth £25.00 and beyond. On placing the order, I observed that the price had dropped to £23.33 once it showed up in the "basket". Nevertheless, it still qualified for free delivery. I learned later that the price drop was due to the exclusion of VAT as it was being exported. (To arrive at the VAT free price, divide the original price by 1.2)

I was informed that it would be delivered by Royal Mail and would arrive at my address on 2nd September, but I was pleasantly surprised to receive the box on 22nd August !! Further, I don't think it was subjected to any inspection or scrutiny by Indian Customs. The package was delivered by a post woman.

Overall, I am very satisfied with my experience with Amazon.co.uk

How to Record CPU and Memory Usage Over Time in Windows?

Whenever the computer is lagging or some application is taking too long to respond, we usually fire up task manager and look under the Performance tab or under Processes to check on processor utilization or the amount of free memory available. The task manager is ideal for real-time analysis of CPU and memory utilization. It even displays a short history of CPU utilization in the form of a graph. You get a small time-window, about 30 seconds or so, depending on how large the viewing area is.

How to Schedule Changes to Your Facebook Page Cover Photo

Facebook’s current layout, the so called Timeline, features a prominent, large cover photo that some people are using in a lot of different creative ways. Timeline is also available for Facebook Pages that people can use to promote their website or business or event.
