GnuWin32 – GNU software for Windows

GnuWin32 is a set of tools that were ported from Unix to Windows, ideal for those who can’t live without their favorite Linux applications. The tools include Windows executable files, patches, and source code along with required dependencies needed for running the application.

The packages available are:

GNU utilities

bc, bison, chess, compface, cpio, coreutils (fileutils, sh-utils, stat, textutils), diffutils, doschk, ed, findutils, flex, gawk, gdbm, gcal, gengetopt, gettext, gperf, grep, groff, gsl, gzip, hello, help2man, iconv, jwhois, less, m4, miscfiles, patch, readline, regex, rx, sed, sharutils, tar, texinfo, tree, units, unrtf, wget, which

Archivers and compressors

arc, arj, bsdtar, bzip2, gzip, lha, libarchive, unzip / zip, zlib

You must download each package as well as its dependencies separately, which is a lot of hard work. Alternatively, you can use GetGnuWin32, a package download and maintenance utility that uses Wget to download all packages at once.

  2. I haven't heard of Berkeley Utilities before, but from what I gather from the description it looks like these are just some commands ported to DOS. Whereas, GnuWin32 consist of executable programs.
