New Google Script Converter converts texts and pages phonetically

Google India today launched a fascinating new tool called Script Converter that converts texts in one script to its phonetic equivalent in another. For example, say you can speak Hindi and you know that ‘namaste’ is a greeting in Hindi but you can’t read ‘नमस्ते’ in Hindi script.

Using script converter you can convert ‘नमस्ते’ to 'namaste' in English script, which you can read. Similarly, you can read Hindi web pages rendered in English script by giving the URL. Script Converter will allow you to speak fluent Hindi even if you don’t understand a thing!

For instance, I can now read aloud this Russian text - chrezvychajnaya situaciya obъyavlena poka lishь v odnom iz rayonov khakasii - na territorii sela belyj yar. na reke abakan povrezhdena damba, obrazovalisь ledovye zatory. v sele prozhivayut 23 tys. chelovek. k nim na pomoschь uzhe vyekhali spasateli, although I have no idea what it says.

Script Converter currently support 17 languages: Bengali, English, Greek, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Sanskrit, Serbian, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. One-to-one conversion is supported in any of these 17 languages.
