Email files to Dropbox using Send to Dropbox

Send to Dropbox is a new service that allows you to upload files to your Dropbox account via email from any computer. A major advantage of using Send to Dropbox, over other services (MailDrop, for example) is you don’t require to install the Dropbox client or any other software to use it. This lets you quickly send files to Dropbox from any public computer without having to spend time setting up the computer.

After you have allowed Send to Dropbox access to your Dropbox account, you will be given an email address that delivers anything you mail to it directly to Dropbox. You can configure the folder where it will save the files and options to automatically extract contents of uploaded ZIP files are available.

Simply attach the files you want to upload to Dropbox and mail it to the Send to Dropbox email ID. You can even share this ID with your friends and they can send files directly to your Dropbox account.

Be cautious whom you share this mail ID with because there is always the possibility of spam. Since Send to Dropbox doesn’t allow any filtering options, a spammer can quickly inundate your Dropbox folder with junk files the same way it does to your email inbox.

One way to avoid this, apart from not sharing your Send to Dropbox email ID, is to make sure the following two options are unchecked.

send2dropbox2

This causes the application to ignore any text emails send to the account. Only attachments get saved to Dropbox.
