License Giveaway and Review: Daniusoft Video Converter Ultimate

Daniusoft Video Converter Ultimate, formerly called Daniusoft Media Converter, is a software application that carries a spectacular set of tools under an average sounding name. Daniusoft Video Converter Ultimate, as the publisher puts it, “cuts in the scope of multimedia decoding & encoding, legitimate copyright circumventing, DVD decrypting & authoring and media file transferring for personal use.”

Daniusoft Video Converter Ultimate houses several independent function units - Video Converter, Video Editor, DVD Ripper, DRM Removal, DVD Burner and Video Transfer. The software has another tool – YouTube video downloader, but I’m not sure whether I should mention it, because it doesn’t work.

Anyways, the software supports a truck load video formats – from the standard AVI, MP4, MPEG, MOV and MKV to HD video like HD AVI(VC-1, MPEG-4), and MTS/M2TS/TS/TRP (AVHD H.264, VC-1, MPEG-2 HD). Similar capabilities are seen in the audio department.

The software supports a wide range of mobile devices. If you want to convert and transfer songs from your PC to your cell phone and not sure what audio or video formats are supported by your device, simple select your cell phone model from the list of output formats and the software will take care of the rest.

Advanced option to fine tune the output results are also available - choose bitrates, sampling frequency and frame rate and resolution in case of videos, .

Daniusoft Video Converter Ultimate doesn’t just convert, it can transfer your songs to your iPod, iPhone, Zune, PSP, Blackberry, Nokia etc too.

Daniusoft Video Converter Ultimate will also author video DVDs and burn them to discs, but the DVD creating unit is a bit primitive and the limitations are glaringly visible. You can’t set chapters, for instance, or manually set the bit rate, apart from choosing one of the predefined profiles.

Also, there seems to be some flaw in the conversion process. In my test, I tried to fit a 2 hour 40 minute movie into a 4.3 GB DVD in vain. Even with the lowest settings applied it could bring the size down to only 6 GB which overshoots the disc size limit. 2 hour 40 minute should comfortably get into a single layer DVD with reasonable video quality. This is something the developers should take a look at.

The same movie was successfully packed into a 2 GB disc under “good” video quality by one of my favorite DVD authoring software – CovertXtoDVD.

The DVD authoring function turns out to be a sore spot, but there are other good things in Daniusoft Video Converter Ultimate.

The DRM removal is excellent. Whether the files are protected by "Fair Use" of iTunes' or the "Play for Sure" of Windows Media or even BBC iPlayer’s DRM - Video Converter Ultimate will disable the DRM of each and every one of it. And it works, even better than some of the software I listed previously.

Similarly, it will rip CSS copy protected DVDs with ease.

Daniusoft Video Converter Ultimate also comes with a basic video editor with which you can trim videos, crop videos, adjust image quality like Brightness, Contrast, Saturation and apply fancy effects like Emboss, Negative, and Old Film and watermark.

Daniusoft Video Converter Ultimate does have it’s share of positives and negatives, but over all it’s a good software.

The good:

  • Support 150+ audio/video formats and large number of mobile devices
  • No iTunes needed to transfer songs to iPod, Zune etc.
  • Removes DRM from media files
  • Decent and easy to use video editor
  • Supports multi-core CPU for parallel processing of multiple files

The bad:

  • DVD authoring is poor
  • YouTube downloader doesn’t work

How to Record CPU and Memory Usage Over Time in Windows?

Whenever the computer is lagging or some application is taking too long to respond, we usually fire up task manager and look under the Performance tab or under Processes to check on processor utilization or the amount of free memory available. The task manager is ideal for real-time analysis of CPU and memory utilization. It even displays a short history of CPU utilization in the form of a graph. You get a small time-window, about 30 seconds or so, depending on how large the viewing area is.

How to Schedule Changes to Your Facebook Page Cover Photo

Facebook’s current layout, the so called Timeline, features a prominent, large cover photo that some people are using in a lot of different creative ways. Timeline is also available for Facebook Pages that people can use to promote their website or business or event. Although you can change the cover photo as often as you like, it’s meant to be static – something which you design and leave it for at least a few weeks or months like a redesigned website. However, there are times when you may want to change the cover photo frequently and periodically to match event dates or some special promotion that you are running or plan to run. So, here is how you can do that.
