Internet telephony service Skype has introduced a new service, Skype To Go, that makes it possible to make international calls from any phones – mobile or landlines. The service has been around for years, but the re-launch brings in new feature – now you can directly dial numbers for your Skype contacts without going through a voice menu and you can do that without even needing an Internet connection or 3G access.
Skype To Go works by converting a contact's local or international number into a unique Skype To Go number with a local calling code, which you can then dial into your landline or mobile phone. Users are billed at Skype's regular per minute call rates plus your local operator charges. So what you get is VoIP equipped non-smart phone which you can use to make international calls taking advantage of Skype’s low rates.
There is no software to install and no computers are required. It is free to set up a Skype To Go number, and users can create up to nine numbers for regular contacts such as friends and family.
The service is currently available in North America, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and a host of European countries.
