Unofficial Transmission Bittorrent Client for Windows

Transmission is a BitTorrent client for the Mac and Linux operating systems. It is the most popular client on Mac OS X and the default BitTorrent client on many Unix and Linux distributions, including Ubuntu, Mandriva, Fedora and OpenSuse.

Although open source and technically cross-platform in nature the developers of Transmission has not released a Windows version of the software yet.

Transmission-Qt Win is an unofficial Windows build of Transmission which features a simple interface on top of the cross-platform back-end. The interface and functions of the Windows port is identical to that found on the Mac and Linux counterpart.

Transmission is a pretty advanced BitTorrent client with powerful features, most of these already available on uTorrent and similar software with the exception of blocking bad peers with a blacklist.

Here are some of the more important features of Transmission:

  • Supports Magnet links
  • Selective downloading
  • Optionally move torrents to a different folder when they finish downloading
  • Encrypted peer connections
  • Torrent file creation
  • A built-in web server so that users can control Transmission remotely via the web (using RPC or WebUI)
  • Automatic port mapping (using UPnP/NAT-PMP)
  • Fast Resume — with peer caching
  • Blocklists for bad peers, periodically updated with the same bluetack peer list used by PeerGuardian and PeerBlock
  • Single listening port for all torrents
  • Scheduled bandwidth limits
  • Global and per-torrent bandwidth caps
  • Sorting/filtering options
  • HTTPS tracker support
  • IPv6 support
  • Local Peer Discovery support
  • and many more

Windows users who wish for a change, can go for it. It is based on the latest Transmission version 2.2.
