FileOptimizer: Lossless File Compressor and Optimizer

FileOptimizer is a lossless file size optimizer program that can reduce the file size of different types of files such as images, Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point files, music files, EPUB, PDF, archives and more. The program utilizes a number of different, open source compression engines to achieve this. For instance, to compress PNG files, FileOptimizer uses the APNG engine, OptiPNG or PngOptimizer; to compress PDF it uses Ghostcript and MP3packer to compress MP3 files. Basically, FileOptimizer is a one stop shop for all your file compression needs.

To use this program, simply drag a selection of files or folders into the program window. You have to do this all at once because once you drag some files into the window, you cannot drag additional files into the file queue. If you have files located at different directories and you wish to process them all at once, you have to copy them all into a single directory to make dragging possible. In fact, I recommend you make copies of your files because FileOptimizer will replace the original files with the optimized ones.

After you have added the files, right-click inside the window and choose the “Optimize” option.

Processing time is reasonable for most file types, except for PNG images, for which the program takes unusually long time to process. Depending on how optimally data was packed in the original files, file size reduction achieved can vary by a wide range. Most reduction is between 10% to 20% while some files can get reduced by 50% or more. Do note that the program shows the size of the output file as percentage of the original file, so 90% would mean a reduction of size by 10%.

Supported file types are: AIR, APK, APNG APPX, BMP, CBZ, DOCX, DLL, EPUB, EXE, GIF, GZ, ICO, JAR, JPEG, MNG, MP3, MPP, PNG, PPTX, ODT, OGG, OGV, PDF, PUB, SCR, SWF, TIF, VSD, WEBP, XAP, XLSX, and ZIP file formats among others.
