Yahoo India today announced the launch of Movieplex – a video streaming service, which will allow users to enjoy licensed full-length Indian (Bollywood) movies for free. Yahoo! India has said that it will collaborate with leading movie production houses to bring thousands of local “Bollywood” movies online to users for a piracy-free, quality entertainment experience. Currently Movieplex has a tiny collection – only 8 titles, that include Rock On, Rann, Dil to Baccha Hai Ji, Crook, Rakta Charitra and others.
The service is supported by advertisers like LG and Maruti Suzuki, and there were no pre-streaming video ads, or advertisements interrupting the movie, but this could change with time.
Just recently, Google introduced free movie movies in India through its YouTube Box Office service. YouTube has also been offering a number of Indian movies for free viewing under www.youtube.com/movies page for years.
"Over 30 million Internet users consume 1.7 billion videos every month across India. With the increasing demand for online video, both consumers and content providers are looking for a trusted destination where quality content can be consumed in a piracy-free environment at their leisure," Yahoo! India Managing Director Arun Tadanki said.
